Setting Goals and Moving Forward

Setting goals is so important to running a business, especially one that is solely responsible on one person to help it grow and succeed. Yet, how many goals do you make in a year that go unnoticed, unaccomplished, and that ultimately fizzle out due to lack of motivation or other causes?

Setting goals and striving to achieve them is how we move forward in life and in business. A goal to make $X amount of income next year, or to write 10 guest posts, or to get featured in your favorite design magazine are all noble goals. Creating them helps us to move in the right direction in order to get what we want. It helps us to not remain static in what we’re already doing.

My move to client-less freelancing

Posted on August 18th, 2011 by Kayla Knight | Freelancing / Business, Lifestyle | 1 Comment »

I don’t think I’ll ever move completely to the concept of ‘client-less freelancing’, but it is something that I’d like to pull in a large stream of my income from someday. Simply having the ability to take off a few days from working if I’d like without stressing over deadlines would be nice. Having a lot of my income come from a project that’s been completed already, having a more stable income, and also lifting the ceiling on my income limit would also be nice. I do enjoy working with clients however, and even crave that sort of work sometimes — it only sucks having to depend on it to make a living.

I’m currently working on a few different streams of passive income right now, and I’m fortunate enough to have built a large enough repeat and referral client base where I don’t really need to spend time marketing, and I have a fairly stable freelancing income as it is. (Got to here with a lot of hard work!) I’d like to get a few things out the door in order to begin pulling in a bit of passive income, or perhaps income from one of my own websites or applications, where it wouldn’t be entirely passive yet still client-less. Basically, I want to be able to fully manage the type of work I do and when/how I do it!

This is just the beginning to my journey down this new road, so I’ll be tracking my progress here and lessons learned for anyone who has similar goals.
