Want Finance Tips?

For some finance tips on a irregular income, check out my post "Dave Ramsey and Freelance Finances". It includes tips, how-to's, best methods, and a list of useful resources for anyone who would like to better manage their money.

Here are a few quick ones though:

  • Feel free to focus your business on whatever project size you prefer; if you like working on bigger projects then do it! However, try to keep a regular stream of smaller projects for budgeting purposes. This could be regular blogging gigs, website maintenance, or consultation. It's useful to have smaller, ongoing projects that can help you regulate your income and help in a financial crunch.
  • If you have the money for your needed fixed costs at the beginning of the month, stash it away in a savings account. There's nothing worse than leaving it your checking account, only to realize it's gone at the end of the month when you need it! (and with no projects finalizing soon)
  • Save on the high side for taxes, emergency, and so on. Come April 15th (or come next hospital visit), it's better to have to much than too little. If you have extra in the end, feel free to keep it in savings, spend it, or use for other expenses.
